Policies

The Grand Traverse Motel on Traverse City’s much acclaimed Front Street provides guests with an alternative to chain hotels. We encourage our guests to review our policies listed below and to contact us with any questions.

Guest Check-In and Check-Out

Guest check-in – 3 pm.
Check-out – 11 am.

Our managers will make every effort to accommodate both early check-ins and late checkouts when requested and based on availability.

Reservation Deposit

Upon making a reservation, a valid credit card number is required to hold a room. Reservations guaranteed by credit card will be charged for guests' stay at the time of booking. If guests’ method of payment does not accept the authorization, the guest will be contacted at the phone number provided, if no new payment may be offered, the reservation will be cancelled.

Additionally, we require a credit card authorization to guarantee any additional charges that may occur during a guest's stay. By providing your credit card information you are agreeing to be held liable for any damages to the property such as repair costs or smoking remediation charges by yourself or any of your guests.

Cancellation Policy

Your reservation is guaranteed by your credit card payment. Any modification to an existing reservation is subject to the property’s availability at the time of modification and may result in changes to the rate.

For direct bookings (bookings made directly with the motel either over the phone or through our website), cancellations made prior to three (3) days of your reservation’s arrival date will not incur any cancellation fee and are fully refundable at the time of cancellation. Cancellations and modifications made in under three (3) days are charged a cancellation fee equal to all charges for the entire length of reservation, as outlined in initial confirmation. In the event that the motel is able to rebook the room for an equal or greater amount, the motel has the discretion to reduce the cancellation fee to $85. FOR PARTIES WITH GREATER THAN TWO ROOMS, 50% OF THE DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE FROM THE TIME OF BOOKING.

If your booking is through a third-party website (Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, etc.), please contact that party initially to make any modifications or cancellations. Your cancellation policy is outlined in your reservation with that website and they are able modify your reservation. Booking your reservation directly with the motel, either through our website or by calling the motel allows us the greatest flexibility and is greatly appreciated.

Guest agrees that any chargeback fees and costs to retrieve any valid funds owed to the Grand Traverse Motel are the responsibility of the guest and the guest authorizes such fees to be charged to the guest's card or otherwise billed. In the event that any credit card charge is reversed by the guest, the guest still owes the debt to the motel and will be liable for such charges plus a $125 fee for direct billing. Any accounts not promptly paid will be turned over to a collection agency.

Smoking Policy

The Grand Traverse Motel is proud to be a non-smoking property. We thank you in advance for not using smoking products outside the designated smoking area.

If your room smells like smoke, regardless of the reason, or who may have caused the smell, you will be charged a $250 smoking fee per day. Evidence of someone smoking is not required. It is your responsibility as the card holder, to be certain the room does not have a smoke odor, as determined by management. We understand that if a guest is charged a smoking fee, they may not return, so we go to great lengths to make sure everyone understands this policy. By law, Michigan is non-smoking state, as it pertains to lodging facilities.

Children

We welcome children of all ages as our very special guests. They must be under adult supervision at all times. You are responsible for damage that might occur from the unrestrained natural enthusiasm and energy of the children staying or visiting you in your room.

Pets

The Grand Traverse Motel is a dog friendly motel subject to the following guidelines. Pets may not be left unattended in the motel room, they must be declared at the time the reservation is made, dogs may not exceed more than 40 pounds, we do not allow aggressive breeds, doggie guests must be kept on a leash in public areas and people guests must clean up after your pet. There is a $30 pet fee for stays of one or two nights and an additional $15 fee per day for reservations exceeding two days. Guests that do not comply with our policies may be asked to leave and no refunds will be provided. All reservations which include dogs must book directly with our manager. In the event that a dog is not declared at the time of check-in, there is a $100 fee in addition to the pet fee.

We limit pet stays to certain rooms on the first floor and we provide extra blankets for your pooch to snuggle up in. We are just a few doors down from a 24-hour vet and we are happy to recommend some great doggie boutiques in town!

Taxes

Michigan charges a use tax of 6 percent on overnight room rentals; Traverse City levies a 5-percent lodging assessment.

Alcohol

Consumption of alcohol is permitted on the property; however, NO glass is permitted outside of your room. If you would like to have a beverage outdoors, it must not be in glass of any kind.
